Unable to Locate / Adjust / Operate Safety Devices

You are expected to be familiar with all the controls and safety devices in the vehicle you are using for your road test. During your G2 road test, the DriveTest examiner will evaluate your use of the controls and safety devices. You should know how to:

  • Use your signal light when moving away from the curb, changing lanes, turning left or right
  • Use your steering wheel properly to steer smoothly
  • Keep both hands on the wheel whenever possible (9 and 3 clock hand position)
  • Accelerate smoothly, adjust speed to weather, road and traffic conditions
  • Brake smoothly to slow down or stop and start braking in advance of your stopping position to avoid sudden stops
  • Use the defroster when the windows fog up
  • Turn on the windshield wipers

You should be very familiar with all the safety devices in a vehicle. If you do not know how to operate them, the DriveTest examiner may fail you before you ever leave your parking spot!
