Car safety involves more than just your driving skills, it also concerns your vehicle. A car breaking down on a roadway can be a big safety hazard. That’s why it’s important to ensure your vehicle is roadworthy every time you drive.
How to Ensure Your Car is Road Worthy?
Driving is a big responsibility and ensuring your vehicle meets the minimum safety standards is part of that.
In addition to checking your mirrors, seat height, lights, etc. each time you drive, there are some fundamental checks you should regularly perform on your car.
Lights – You should check all of your lights to be sure none are burnt out.
Gas – Running out of gas is more than just a nuisance for you. It can cause issues for all the other vehicles on the road. Ensure you have more than enough gas to get you to your destination and the closest gas station.
Windshield Washer Fluid – The cleaner your windows are, the easier it is to see them. Running out of windshield washer fluid while you’re behind a big rig, in the middle of a rain storm is dangerous. Running out of windshield washer fluid at any time can be a safety risk. Keep your levels topped up, and drive with an extra bottle if you can.
Oil – Just like gas, a vehicle needs oil to function properly. Ensure you go for regular oil changes.
Tire Pressure – It’s important to ensure your tires have the proper amount of air so that you have a safe drive. Getting a flat tire while driving can be dangerous.
Tire Tread Depth – Speaking of tires, they wear down. And, when they wear down, they can pop. That’s why it’s important to keep an eye on them and have them checked for safety.
Other questions you might ask to help determine if your car is safe to drive?
Is it making any weird noises?
Is your battery in good condition?
Do you have any cracks in the windshield that should be fixed?
Auto shops can perform tests to ensure your vehicle meets all the requirements.
Vehicles don’t always look like they’re falling apart before they’re about to break down. This is why it is important to have regular checkups on your car. These checkups will help ensure you have good fluid levels and that your car is running its best.
